Frequently Asked Questions About
Home Medical Equipment in Pine Bluff, Arkansas
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common inquiries about obtaining and using home medical equipment, including insurance requirements, rental terms, and provider changes.
How can I get a hospital bed in my home for me?
For insurance to rent a hospital bed, you will need an appointment with your provider to document the medical necessity of a hospital bed in your home. Your diagnosis will also be a factor in determining the medical necessity.
How do I get a CPAP machine if I think I or someone I know has sleep apnea?
For insurance to rent a CPAP/BiPAP machine, you will need an appointment with your provider. At this appointment you will need to discuss the signs and symptoms of OSA (obstructive sleep apnea). These can include the following: excessive daytime sleepiness, loud snoring, gasping for breath while sleeping, impaired cognition, mood disorders, or insomnia. Also, another factor of OSA is hypertension, ischemic heart disease, or a history of stroke. Your physician will then determine if you need to be scheduled for a sleep study.
Will insurance get me a wheelchair?
Yes, this is determined through an inpatient visit with your healthcare provider. The provider will determine your medical need for a wheelchair based on your mobility needs in the home. This is related to how you can complete your daily living activities in your home in a timely manner. Your provider will document that, and with your diagnosis, that can determine if insurance will rent a wheelchair for you.
Do you rent wheelchairs if I only need them for a short time?
Yes, we offer a weekly cash rental price.
Do I have to go to the provider to get a rollator through insurance?
No, as long as your provider is aware you need this item to get around your home to perform daily living activities, then an RX and a diagnosis list that shows you have the medical necessity will be all that is needed for insurance to provide one for you. You or a family member can call and speak to the nurse about what is needed in the home to make it easier to be mobile and help avoid falls.
How long before I can get a new CPAP machine through insurance?
Insurance states that 5 years is a useful lifetime on all medical equipment. To get a new CPAP machine, you will need to have an appointment with your provider and let them know it has been 5 years or more since you have had your CPAP machine. Depending on how long ago your sleep study was, your provider may choose to have you repeat a sleep study or may not. The documentation that you have had your CPAP for 5 years or more and you are using and are compliant with therapy and an RX with a copy of the old or new sleep study will allow your insurance to rent the new CPAP machine.
If I am unhappy with my current provider for my CPAP supplies, can I switch providers?
Yes, all that is needed is a new Rx for supplies, a copy of your sleep study, and a current download of your therapy, and you can switch. Depending on your last order from the previous supplier will determine when you can receive supplies from a new supplier.
Does insurance pay for the Up-Right Walker?
No, as of right now it is not coded for reimbursement from insurance.
Do you carry POCs (portable oxygen concentrators), and how can I get one?
Yes, if you are a current oxygen patient and you are using small tanks on a regular basis, we can send an RX to your provider and get you switched.
Can I switch oxygen providers?
Yes and no. The first thing to note is insurance rents your oxygen monthly. Depending on what insurance you have as to how long they rent. I will speak from Medicare insurance and their rental process. They rent oxygen for 3 years, and then it goes into maintenance for 2 years. If you are 2 years or more into a rental from Medicare, it is not advisable to change providers at this point. The reason is that the new supplier will only get one year of rental payments, and then it will go into a maintenance phase. The maintenance phase will allow the supplier to get a payment only when they check the oxygen purity and do maintenance in the home.
